Where do you pay 4,716 pounds for a burger… and don’t faint when you see the bill?!

By Vivi Margariti

The receipt clearly says: 4,716.51 Egyptian pounds. The table? Covered in burgers, fries, chicken tenders, Red Bull and Sprite. My eyes land on the total — and my brain screams: “Wait, where exactly did we eat? And why does it cost thousands for a burger?!” But don’t worry. This isn’t some gourmet bistro with gold flakes on the bun.
This is Cairo — a city where the currency can make you feel like a millionaire… before you even open the menu.

The magic of currency exchange

Egypt uses the Egyptian Pound (EGP), and as of today, 1 euro equals around 50 EGP.

So yes:
– A burger priced at 250 pounds? That’s just 5 euros.
– The entire bill of 4,716 pounds? About 88 euros total — for six people.
– Full meals, drinks and dessert-level satisfaction.

A feast… for the price of a menu in Athens

Kid chicken tenders, UFO burger, chicken BLT sandwich, classic fries, mineral water, Red Bull, Sprite… The table was full. And not with tiny bites or fancy “tapas”, but real, hearty food. The kind you finish and then… slowly unzip your jacket to breathe a little better.

The total? Less than what you’d pay for two people at a typical burger spot in Athens.

When the currency trolls you (in a good way)

Egypt can be confusing at first. You pay with 200 and 100-pound bills, and your bill says “thousands.”
But the truth is: it’s one of the most value-for-money travel destinations — especially when it comes to food.

Whether you’re eating at a street vendor, a local eatery or a trendy burger joint, you’ll eat well — and spend little.

💡 In Egypt, you can pay 4,716 pounds for a burger… and feel like you actually saved money.

And yes, I kept the receipt.
To remind myself that sometimes, the most flavorful travel moments aren’t measured in euros — but in stories.
